About physiotherapy
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a health profession that helps people with injuries, pain, stiffness, weakness and other movement problems. Physiotherapists are university trained in injury diagnosis, injury treatment, exercise prescription, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and in sport and musculoskeletal health and fitness.
A physiotherapist also looks for the underlying cause of an injury, and treats it with evidence-based care, so you can get back to your normal life as soon as possible and lower the chance of it coming back.
What does treatment involve?
It depends on you and your condition. Treatment may include massage, mobilisation, manipulation, exercises, stretches, hydrotherapy, clinical Pilates, taping, bracing, dry needling, ice or heat, and advice and education. Kerrin chooses the techniques for each person based on the research for their condition, and explains them first.
What does Yungaburra Physio treat?
Yungaburra Physio is a musculoskeletal practice: muscles, joints and the nerves around them, mainly sports injuries, headaches, vertigo and dizziness, and rehabilitation. Physiotherapy also covers areas such as heart and lung conditions, pelvic floor health, neurological conditions and children’s development; for those, Kerrin can suggest where to go. See what we treat, or call to ask whether Kerrin can help with yours.
Seeing Kerrin
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
No. In Australia you don’t need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist. The exceptions are DVA patients, whose GP arranges the referral, and claims through a motor vehicle accident insurer. The clinic doesn’t treat workers’ compensation (WorkCover) claims.
