What we treat

Physiotherapy for pain, injury and getting moving again

Yungaburra Physio is a musculoskeletal practice, for problems with muscles, joints and the nerves around them. Kerrin sees people of all ages, from the Tablelands and further afield. Here's what he treats most often. Not sure if he can help? Call and ask.

Sports injuries

Kerrin has spent many hours with local sporting clubs as a sports trainer and physiotherapist. Whether it’s a rolled ankle, a strained hamstring or a sore shoulder from the season, he’ll assess the injury, treat it and plan your return to training and games with you.

Let us help get you back in the game.

Headaches, vertigo and dizziness

Some headaches come from the joints and muscles of the upper neck. For these, Kerrin uses the Watson Headache Approach, a hands-on way of assessing the upper neck and treating it when it’s involved. He has completed the Watson Headache Institute’s Foundation, Consolidation and Certification courses.

Dizziness and vertigo have many causes, and some come from the inner ear or the neck. Kerrin will assess where yours is coming from and treat what a physiotherapist can treat. If anything needs a doctor’s attention, he’ll tell you.

Rehabilitation after injury or illness

After an injury, an illness or an operation, a planned programme of exercise helps you get back to the things you need and want to do. Kerrin will work out where you’re starting from, set goals with you, and progress the programme as you improve.

Back and neck pain

Back and neck pain are among the most common reasons people see a physiotherapist. Kerrin will ask how it started and what makes it better or worse, check how you move, and look for what’s behind the pain as well as where it hurts.

Treatment may include hands-on techniques such as massage and mobilisation, exercises to do at home, and advice on work, sleep and staying active while it settles.

Shoulder and knee pain

Shoulders and knees take a lot of load, at work, in sport and around the house. Kerrin will assess the joint and the muscles that support it, explain what he finds, and build a plan to settle the pain and get your strength and movement back.

That usually means hands-on treatment in the clinic and a set of exercises for home, adjusted as you improve.

Dry needling

Dry needling uses very fine needles in tight or painful muscles. Kerrin may suggest it as one part of your treatment, alongside hands-on treatment and exercise, for conditions such as muscle strains, back and neck pain and some joint problems. He’ll explain it first, and it’s always your choice.

Hip and buttock pain

Pain around the hip and buttock can come from the hip joint itself, the muscles and tendons around it, or the lower back. Kerrin will work out which, and treat it with a mix of hands-on treatment and exercises to strengthen and loosen the area.

Feet, ankles and walking

How your feet meet the ground affects your ankles, knees, hips and back. Kerrin will watch how you walk, assess your feet and ankles, and treat what he finds, which may include exercises, taping and advice on footwear.

The clinic also stocks arch support footwear from Archies, Foot Logics, Secra, Foot Bio-Tec and Zullaz.

General fitness and functional assessments

Fitness goals? We have the background and professional training to help get you there. With a degree in exercise science as well as physiotherapy, Kerrin can assess how you move and write an exercise programme for your goals, whether that’s getting stronger, getting back to activity, or staying active as you get older.

Stroke rehabilitation

After a stroke, physiotherapy works on movement, strength, balance and walking, and on the everyday tasks that matter to you. Kerrin will work with you, and with your family and other health professionals where that helps.

Children (paediatric physiotherapy)

Children aren’t small adults: their bodies are still growing and developing. Kerrin sees children for injuries, aches and pains, and for help with movement, and involves parents throughout.

Everyone is different, so what helps one person may not suit another. Kerrin will assess you first and explain your options before any treatment.
